Gaye Dixon

Born in India, I grew up on a tobacco farm in Africa (Zimbabwe) and trained as an art teacher, obtaining a Certificate of Secondary Education from the University of Rhodesia. I spent twelve years in England where, among other activities including teaching at a secondary school in Birmingham, I undertook a course at Manchester Polytechnic. After returning to Zimbabwe in 1983, I resumed teaching art in Harare, and became involved in set design and production for school dramatics which occupied me for ten years. As my family grew up I was able to devote more time to my passion for drawing and painting, mainly wildlife, in pen and ink, charcoal, watercolours and oils. I held three solo exhibitions in Harare and Victoria Falls, and took part in numerous group exhibitions throughout the country. I fulfilled an ambition to design postage stamps – three sets - for Zimbabwe. This was a most interesting project and opened up a whole new area of learning. Having relocated to Western Australia in 2001, my husband and I operate an art gallery and picture framing business in Applecross, Perth. I have spent some time teaching drawing at a local community art centre and strive to further develop my creative pursuits.
